Alright, I know I’m going to get flak for this; Minecraft is super popular, and for a good reason. The frame provides a massive open sandbox for players to build whatever they want and generally just have a good time. However, as someone who played and enjoyed Minecraft, I was very surprised to see what the critics had to say about it.
I saw the dismal but effective (some might call it stylistic) graphics, the lack of campaign outside of survival, and the generally repetitive gameplay and had it in my mind that even though it was great fun for a while, the critics probably saw the shortcomings I did. They didn’t. Metacritic: 93. IGN. 9.0. PC Gamer: 9.6. I just don’t get it.
