Daikatana is another gaming title that features on our list of 15 worst games of all times. The first person shooter game was developed by Ion Storm and published by Eidos Interactive and Kemco for PC and Nintendo respectively. The game is regarded as one of the major commercial failures in the video game industry.
The development of Daikatana was started in 1997 and was released in 2000 due to various delays and push backs. The release was actually too late for the game, which used Quake II engine as various other games like Unreal Tournament and Quake III had already released before it. These games had more advanced graphics and gameplay technology compared to Daikatana. Another reason for the game’s miserable performance was the controversial advertisement where they used a red background to write – “John Romero‘s about to make you his bitch. Suck It Down.”
Daikatana was ranked number two in the “Biggest gaming disappointment of the decade” list prepared by GameTrailers. The reason for the game’s failure according to them are – terrible AI, pushed-back release dates, controversial magazine ad, and internal drama.
