Ashes Cricket 2013 is one of the biggest video gaming flops in recent times. The game, which was initially released for PC had plans to release for consoles but had to cancel its PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U versions. Ashes Cricket 2013 was developed and published by Trickstar Games and 505 Games respectively.
Ashes Cricket 2013 was initially scheduled to release in the second quarter of 2013, which would have coincided with the English leg of 2013 Ashes series, but it was pushed back to the fourth due to quality concerns. The game, however released in November of the same year coinciding with the Australian leg of the Ashes series and lasted only four days in the stands.
The game had to be pulled out after it received extremely negative comments from the users. The game was heavily criticized because of its poor graphics and character animations, badly implemented and documented controls and various other non-functioning features. Publishers 505 games, later apologized for the game and said that they were unable to meet the quality benchmarks for the game and provided full refunds to the customers who bought the game.
13. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 is the tenth game of the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series which was released in October 2015. The game was published by Activision and developed by Robomodo and Disruptive Games for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 was expected to be a good game because most of its predecessors were great games. The game, however failed to live up to the expectations and flopped badly.
The game received poor reviews upon its release and the critics cited that it failed to deliver on the main aspects i.e. performance, physics and environment. To add to that the game had poor aesthetics, boring themes, very small in size, uninteresting challenge tasks. The game also didn’t contain much of hidden secrets as in the previous games of the series. The game received scores of only 3.5 and 3 out 10 from IGN and GameSpot respectively.
14. Fighter Within
Fighter Within, a Kinect based Xbox One exclusive makes the next entry in our list. The game was developed by Daoka and published by Microsoft and it was released on November 22, 2013. The game is regarded as one of the worst fighting games in the history. Critics even termed the game as ‘garbage’ and it features in various worst games lists.
Reviewers mentioned that the game had poor motion detection which was one of the reason of its downfall. They also added that the gameplay of Fighter Within was shallow, the storyline was ‘laughable’ and ‘cheesy’. Fighter Within is also the second lowest scoring game in the history of Xbox One with only 23 Metacritic score out of 100. The was also termed as ‘worst type of game possible for the Kinect’ by video-game website Level Up and ‘the worst games ever in general’ by X-One magazine.
15. Lichdom: Battlemage
Another game which features on this list is Lichdom: Battlemage. The game makes into the list because of its extremely pathetic console ports. The game was initially released for PC in August 2014 and was developed and published by Xaviant. However, the console versions of the game, which were released in April 2016, were developed by Maximum Games.
The PC version of the game which was released a couple of years ago received mixed reviews. The story, graphics, voice acting, and the customization system of the game were praised by the reviewers although they criticized the game’s repetitive nature. On the contrary, the console versions were so poor that it even fails to get across 15 fps. The game also have very low brightness and the screen tears excessively. Most of reviewers said that it is very irritating to play the game because of its extremely poor graphics and lags.
