Black Mirror Fans, You’re Going To Love This New Netflix Show

Black Mirror has cemented itself as one of the most popular television concepts in recent memory.

Charlie Brooker’s fascinating yet bleak outlook into a not so distant dystopian future offers up a terrifyingly realistic view into technological advances that basically hold the capabilities of either killing us, or making us generally miserable.

Now Netflix are looking to recapture some of that grim magic in their straight-to-series anthology What / If.

Renée Zellweger will star in the new show which is said to “explore the ripple effects of what happens when acceptable people start doing unacceptable things.”

“Each season will tackle a different morality tale inspired by culturally consequential source material, and the power of a single fateful decision to change the trajectory of an entire life,”

Netflix haven’t give too much away surrounding the show just yet, however the first season is reportedly going to focus on “cash-strapped newlyweds” as they “weigh a lucrative but ethically dicey offer from a powerful woman in this series.”

According to Deadline, Zellweger will take on the role of that powerful woman. And she’ll be called Anne.

“Zellweger’s Anne is a shrewd and mercurial San Francisco venture capitalist. She is magnetically charismatic, seductive, charming, even vulnerable when it serves her purpose.”

“But she’s also a virtuoso of deception with a cauldron of destructive secrets, including a deeply buried metaphorical deal with the devil that set the course for her life back when she was still just a girl herself.” Deadline claim.

It seems What / If is going to be a strong project all round too.

Mike Kelley, who created ABC’s Revenge and CBS’ Swingtown, is behind the idea for the series and will serve as showrunner. Director Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump, Back to the Future) will serve as an executive producer, alongside The Dark Knight and Wonder Woman producer Charles Roven.

Jackie Levine of Compari Entertainment serves as co-executive producer. And AACTA award-winning Phillip Noyce, of Rabbit-Proof Fence and The Bone Collector fame, is directing and executive producing the first two episodes.
