Defense Grid 2 made possible by mystery investor

A Kickstarter Campaign was aimed at raising an amount of $250,000 to fund the development of Hidden Path Entertainment’s Defense Grid was started. The endeavour was statistically successful as a total of $271,726 was raised.

However, the real goal was to raise about $1 million, so as to fund the sequel Defense Grid 2. From that aspect the campaign proved to be disappointing.

But as per an announcement made by Hidden Path Entertainment last night, Defense Grid 2 is currently in development. A private investor has stepped in and filled up the deficit budget that was required. The investor has preferred to remain unanimous till now.

As promised earlier, the game is being provided free of cost to all the Kickstarter backers.

Hidden Path Entertainment’s co-founder, Jeff Pobst said,”We can’t thank you enough. it’s awesome, and we’re really appreciative of not only you but of the investment partner. They’ve taken a chance on us and we want really show them that we can make an awesome product and that it can do well for you guys.”

The game is slated to release in the first half of 2014 for PC and Mac.The game will have multiplayer, a level editor, a richer story, new characters, new towers, new aliens, a new engine, new level types, new game modes and gameplay customisation.

Although, this mystery investor seems to be elusive as of now, but considering that the studio has offices in Bellevue, Washington; the same place where Valve’s headquarters are located and has also aided in the development of the title Counter Strike: Global Offensive, it isn’t that far-fetched to assume that the mystery investor might very well be Gabe Newell.

We won’t be surprised as he’s known to support people who manage to convince him with their talent. Are you excited by this news?
