With the recent onslaught of news and announcements from LA these past 24 hours comes perhaps one of the best things yet about the upcoming Titanfall 2. It turns out, as opposed to how things went with the original game, all DLC maps and modes for Titanfall 2 will be completely free of charge. The news comes from Respawn Entertainment‘s head of development David Wightman, during the EA Play event in London last night. Specifically, he says:
“We’ll definitely be supporting Titanfall 2 post-launch, and I can confirm all maps and modes we deliver post-launch will be free. We’ll be talking more about post-launch plans closer to release so stay tuned for more info,”
Furthermore, Wightman confirmed that micro-transactions will be far from prominent in the fast approaching shooter, remarking that he dislikes the shift in balance and gameplay in favor of “some kid who’s spent an extra £40 on the game.” Sounds admirable.
So, what of DLC that isn’t “maps and modes” then? Wightman failed to comment on any form of single player DLC, an idea that shouldn’t necessarily be completely swept under the rug; after all, the campaign element of Titanfall 2 is shaping up to be one of the biggest selling factors associated with it, and maybe Respawn Entertainment would be wise to grab it and run. Come release, we’ll know for sure whether or not the campaign truly is all it’s made out to be, and maybe then we’ll have a clearer picture of whether or not to expect more in the ways of paid DLC for Titanfall 2.
Until then, be sure to stay connected and keep an eye on Fraghero – E3 has only just started, and there’s sure to be plenty more to see in the coming days.
