John Hanke, CEO of Niantic Labs, has confirmed the Eeveelution Easter Egg in Pokemon Go to actually be true. The rumor regarding Eeveelution was one of the first rumors to hit the Pokemon Go community with ferocity.

Addressing Pokemon Go‘s Hall H presentation at SDCC, Hanke said that there was always a way to control the evolution of Eevee in the game. He also added that Eevee can be evolved into a Vaporeon, a Joltreon or a Flareon by naming it in a certain way.

The anime episode of Pokemon, “The Battling Eevee Brothers,” is the source of the Easter Egg. This was the episode which brought in the Eevee evolution to the game. Each of the brothers had different names and had three different evolutions for their respective Eevees.

When you name an Eevee after any of the brothers in Pokemon Go, you will be able to control your evolution. Suppose you name an Eevee ‘Rainer.’ It will then evolve into a Vaporeon, while naming it ‘Pyro and ‘Sparky’ will evolve it into a Flareon and a Jolteon, respectively.

The CEO also indicated there are some more Easter Eggs in Pokemon Go that no one has been able to find yet. Maybe it’s time to put your detective hats on and try to uncover them.
