Fans of the Deus Ex series have been waiting patiently for the release of the game series’s next installment, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. It was initially set to release back in February, but developers pushed it back to August in order to do some more fine tuning and tweaking before releasing it.

The game will be available on August 23 of this year. Developed by Eidos Montreal and published by Square Enix, this next installment will take place two years after the Human Revolution events occurred.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided features a world that has become so divided by hatred, prejudice, and fear that many countries are enacting harsh laws aimed at segregating mechanically augmented humans and “Naturals” from each other. The many parallels of the near-futuristic Deus Ex Universe® will be explored at the conference, particularly around how technology is rapidly shaping the human condition and the ethics of self-regulation.
What is also interesting about this upcoming game is the recent collaboration between Square Enix and Courageous, a CNN brand studio, in order to host a conference on human augmentation called Human by Design. The release of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will be supported jointly by Square Enix and Human by Design. It’s fitting since the game series is centered around mechanically augmented human beings.
“Human by Design greatly embodies this approach, as we’ve assembled a group of thought-leaders across the fields of science, technology, ethics, and cyborg activism who, for the first time, will come together to discuss the cutting-edge technologies and innovations that are shaping human augmentation.” – Otto Bell, vice president and group creative director of Courageous
We previously shared James Young’s story about his bionic arm, which shows how much human augmentation can change a person’s life. Human by Design intends to cover many controversial topics of discussion, such as how to make augmentation accessible by everyone, should doctors or individuals have the final say on augmentation procedures, and what will medical advances be like ten years from now.
“Human by Design goes beyond bringing to life the key themes of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. This conference is a special opportunity for a video game to take pause from the limitless world we play in, and to drive the conversation around what is really happening in the space of human augmentation.” – Jon Grant, senior product marketing manager at Square Enix
The conference is being held at the Paley Center for Media in New York City on August 3, just a few weeks before Mankind Divided is released.
