MediEvil PS4 is a complete Remake, not just a Remaster

Good news for MediEvil fans as Sony Studios have announced that the upcoming game for PS4 will be a remake of the classic game and not just a simple remaster.

Shawn Layden, who is Sony Worldwide Studios Chairman had this to say about the upcoming remake of MediEvil.

I think there have been some words that might sound alike but mean different things – like remake and remaster. This is a remake. We’ve taken the original game design and we’ve taken a lot of the key art, some of the other attributes of the game design and ethos, if you will. And we’re working with a developer called Other Ocean Interactive, and they are remaking MediEvil in that design – the original MediEvil from PS1. The one that I worked on when I was in Tokyo.

MediEvil remake was unveiled during PSX back in 2017 and we were actually told that it was going to be a remaster for the game there. It would seem that the team behind the remaster/remake would have been a lot better if it was a remake rather than a remaster.

This change could also explain as to why we haven’t seen any gameplay as of yet as the team only decided recently to turn it into a remake as opposed to a remaster. However we won’t have to wait long to see some as Layden confirmed that we will get to have a look at the game on October 31st. The perfect time for some Skeleton content (it’s Halloween if you haven’t worked it out).

Hopefully this will be more of a look at the gameplay rather than the couple of very teasey trailers we have had recently.

The remake of the PS1 classic is also being worked on by many of the original development team. This will hopefully make sure that the feel of the original game is kept intact.
