Microsoft Offering Jobs to former Sony Employees laid off from Santa Monica Studios

Santa Monica Studios is best known for their work in the PlayStation exclusive God of War series, helped SuperBot in creating All-Stars Battle Royale, and many others.

Inside sources have reported that Sony has laid off many employees at their Santa Monica Studio today.

No one is really sure how much damage has been done, but there have been rumors of a project that has been cancelled.

Sony has issued a statement saying:

“SCEA can confirm that we have completed a reduction in workforce at Santa Monica Studio. This is a result of a cycle of resource re-alignment against priority growth areas within SCE WWS. We do not take these decisions lightly. However, sometimes it is necessary to make changes to better serve the future projects of the studio. We have offered outplacement services and severance packages to ease transition for those impacted.”

After a couple hours, the news of the layoffs has caught the attention of Microsoft. The Vice President of Microsoft Phil Spencer made it known that they have been contacting the former Sony employees and are interested in recruiting those individuals.

It was really surprising to hear Microsoft reaching out to the workers. We just aren’t completely sure if they really do want to help the struggling developers or if they want to low blow Sony by taking their former employees. Looks like we will just have to wait and see how the employees respond to the offer.
