You Can Now Play Far Cry in VR! Here’s How You Can Play

A new Far Cry VR experience takes groups of up to eight players to fight across Far Cry 3’s Rook Island.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to participate from the comfort of your own home. The game, simply titled ‘Far Cry VR’, is an arcade exclusive experience. It’s a partnership between Ubisoft and Zero Latency VR.

From the trailer, it looks to be an adaptation of the co-op game mode from Far Cry 3. That saw teams of four fight through different stages of Rook Island. Iconic villain Vaas returns, though it doesn’t seem as though there’s any brand new dialogue.

The VR setups sound like they’re quite the business. Players receive weapon-like props to help them feel like they’re actually aiming and shooting a real gun. The stage sizes are huge, and since the VR helmets are wireless, you’re free to move around almost as much as you like.

You might want to look elsewhere if you’re expecting to be going against your teammates in PvP – this is strictly a co-op experience intended for groups, parties or events.

Each demo is expected to run for about 30 minutes, which is plenty of time enough to be kicking about in VR. I know for a fact I can barely handle 20 minutes of Beat Sabre before feeling gippy.

How Can You Play Far Cry VR?

Zero Latency are hosting Far Cry VR in 33 locations across the world. Thankfully for us UK folk, that means that we’re also able to get in on the action. There are locations available to book in Birmingham, Nottingham, and Wembley Park. You can find a location near you over on the Zero Latency website.

“Did I ever tell you the definition of insanity?”

Far Cry Experience should be open for players to book in the coming weeks. The question is if Vaas is terrifying enough on a 2D screen, just how imposing is he going to be through a VR headset? I just wish we could experience Giancarlo Esposito in virtual reality – he’s perfectly cast as the villain in Far Cry 6.

If VR isn’t quite your thing, there’s not long to wait until Far Cry 6 finally releases. It’s scheduled to hit shelves this November. We recently previewed the game, in which we said Far Cry 6 is going to be ruthless, relentless, and ridiculous.
