Red Dead Redemption 2 Achieves Biggest Opening Weekend in Entertainment History

Red Dead Redemption 2 had the largest opening weekend for any entertainment product that has ever been made. Red Dead Redemption 2 managed to sell over $725 million in copies over 3 days. This is an incredible achievement especially considering that it wasn’t released on PC for the open weekend.

This also means that Red Dead Redemption 2 is the largest launch of this console generation. Sadly Red Dead Redemption 2 didn’t quite manage the top of the console launch ever. Luckily for Rockstar the top of all time is GTA V. GTA V is also the entertainment product which has made the most money ever. When Red Dead Redemption 2’s online mode comes around we may see that change… Maybe.

Rockstar hasn’t shared the exact unit sales for Red Dead Redemption 2 but looking at the amount of money made it is around 10 million copies of the game sold. The game also sold a large amount more on the PlayStation as opposed to the Xbox with PlayStation boasting 68% of the sales of the game. This is most likely due to the fact that there were many pre-order bonuses for the game were only available on the PlayStation.

This is also as to why Red Dead Redemption 2 has become the game with the largest launch sales of any game released on the PlayStation network. Red Dead Redemption 2 literally cannot be stopped.

Many gamers and gaming outlets alike have rated the game incredibly highly and many have even pegged it for the game of the year. This year has had a few big releases including Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Spider-Man and God of War (along with many more). It could be a close race for game of the year but I would be surprised if Red Dead Redemption 2 doesn’t take the top spot.

Have you already picked up the game or will you be waiting for it to drop in price a little (that may also take a little while to happen).
