Rockstar Games Teases Red Dead Redemption 2 in the most Rockstar way possible

Goodbye Grand Theft Auto and hello… Red Dead Redemption 2? You never know until it’s confirmed officially, but Rockstar Games has been dropping some serious hints on their social media accounts.

We received and reported an anonymous tip back in March “Rumor: Red Dead Redemption 2 Details Leaked, Reveal Planned” and the article went insanely viral. There were doubters and detractors *ahem* Paul Tassi from Forbes, “Every day I see a lot of far-fetched, poorly sourced video game rumors, and I’m content to mostly ignore them. But yesterday, one such rumor sort of took over the entire video game news cycle. It was the top story on reddit, it was trending on Twitter and Facebook , it was everywhere. It was about Red Dead Redemption 2. Obviously, the thought of such a game is something to get excited about, but the “scoop,” which was fed to FragHero, is an absolutely absurdist piece of “my uncle works at Nintendo ” garbage that should not have been given the time of day.”  Through all the doubt, things are finally beginning to crystallize for the sequel.

We followed that up with Rumor: Red Dead Redemption 2 Screenshot Leaked. This image wasn’t publicly available and instead was hosted on a private server of an ex-employee of Rockstar.

He didn’t set the permissions correctly and therefore it was leaked. The artist in question is Matt Clyne, and the image was privately hosted on his zenfolio page. The redditor bypassed the simple password-protect step and was able to download a high-res version of it.

and finally Red Dead Redemption 2’s Real Name Revealed, Leaked Map Confirmed Real The map is set within the great Black Plains, the area where the original Red Dead Redemption took place within a zone called Blackwater.

Today, however, would go down as a special day…

since this is the first time Rockstar Games has gone on record and dropped a massive hint about the game’s upcoming announcement. They have not left much to the imagination with the move they made.

And now we have have a sudden theme change of Rockstar’s official facebook page too:

The gratuitous use of the color red with a slightly “old west” fraying of the logo is quite a hint. The last addition to the franchise was over 6 years ago in 2010 and it recently became backwards compatible with the Xbox One, the only real news about the franchise for over half a decade.

Knowing Rockstar, if this is real we’re soon going to be hearing about this everywhere due to their insane advertising budgets. Fortunately, Rockstar games is usually one to deliver on promises.

A reddit user also made a fitting joke:
Rockstar: We should make some hype for this coming halloween dlc
Rockstar: ‘Uploads the logo with red background’
Fans: HOLY SHIT RED DEAD 3!!!
Rockstar: well, fuck

We ourselves had asked Rockstar for it just a few days ago:
