The Best Upcoming Games Of 2022 To Look Forward To

2021 has been filled with some incredible games, but we can’t help but looking ahead. Here are the most anticipated upcoming games of 2022.

With the effects of the pandemic taking hold over 2021, we’ve seen numerous delays. Like a lot of delays. But there is a silver lining. 2022 is going to be absolutely stacked. And we’ll finally be able to get our hands on some of our most anticipated games.

Let’s jump right into the best upcoming games of 2022.

GOTHAM KNIGHTs

Gotham Knights could correct all that went wrong with Marvel’s Avengers. Promising a story driven co-op superhero experience taking place in the wake of Batman’s “death”. This one will offer our more expansive look at Gotham, as multiple iconic villains run rampant.

Players can choose between Batgirl, Night Wing, Red Hood and Robin to take on the crime-ridden streets of Gotham. Expanding upon the series signature combat, players will level up and formulate their own playstyle with each character.

I love a co-op game, and getting to suit up as one of Gotham’s new age heroes with a mate sounds incredibly. I’d hope that WB Games Montréal are able to see the mistakes of Square Enix’s Avengers to deliver something fun for the players, and not just an endless grind.

GOD OF WAR RAGNAROK

Is there a game more anticipated than supposed best game of all time? Logic would suggest not. God of War Ragnarok will round out the Norse Storyline for this rebooted franchise. And honestly, I can’t wait. God of War (2018) easily leapt to the top of many best game lists and its hard to argue against them. It revitalised a dying franchise and made it heart-breaking, riveting and a blast to play.

Ragnarok will pick things up some time later as Kratos and a teenage Atreus flee the Witch of the Woods, Freya. We’ve already seen characters like Brok, Sindri and Mirmir. But there will also be some new faces. Angrboda and the Norse God of War Tyr have already shown their faces. And to top it off we got confirmation that Thor will show up, for what will undoubtedly be an epic showdown.

ELDEN RING

What better way to ring in the new year than with Elden Ring. The next FromSoftware title has Soulsborne fans in a tizzy with a proper open world and plenty of deliciously gnarly creature designs. This one will be one of the first big titles of 2022, when it launches on January 21st.

Elden Ring will be playable with up to four players in co-op, so you can tackle the game’s beasts with mates. You’ll be able to ride across its six main areas on horseback, and this horse has some serious jumping abilities. Fans of the Souls series should expect an expanded experience akin to that franchise.

HORIZON FORBIDDEN WEST

This colourful sequel will closely follow Elden Ring, but the vibes could not be more different. Aloy is back and this time she’s hitting up the West coast. With dense underwater areas to explore, new types of robo-dinosaurs and a contagion spreading through the land, Forbidden West is all kinds of epic.

I must say I was a little surprised to see this keep a dual-generation launch, but nonetheless, Forbidden West is a stunner. With the blues of the ocean, the crumbling Golden Gate Bridge and wind-swept fauna, this is pushing all kinds of graphical limits. And there is a giant mammoth robot, need I really say more?

STARFIELD

Bethesda are back with a corker of a sci-fi open world. Starfield marks one of the first exclusive titles to launch on Xbox consoles and PC, after the Bethesda acquisition. And this one is sure to sell a few Xbox’s on the run-up to Christmas. Starfield will launch on November 11th, 2021, and will be the first original RPG from the company in 25 years.

Todd Howard stated this will be “like Skyrim in space”, so expect a vast open world, plenty of player build options, and lore for days. Oh, and for the game to resell in new editions for at least 10 years. Starfield will apparently feature factions that you can join up, allowing you to carve out your own path. It is also being built on a new engine. Thank God!
