There’s an element of surprise – secrecy even – when playing Pokemon Go. Niantic has cleverly designed the game so that each new find builds excitement for players as they try to “catch ’em all.”
Region-locked Pokemon, creatures with ridiculously high flee rates, and lack of a real Pokemon tracking system build up and impact the game in a certain way. It gives the game a certain mystery, and Pokemon Go players are always seeking out that new surprise hidden in the popular game.
One thing that seems to have eluded players so far has been the inclusion of Legendary Pokemon. Legendary Pokemon – like Mew, Mewtwo, Zapdos and Moltres, have yet to grace the Pokedex of players. Or is that until now?
A number of different Reddit users claim that they have spotted an Articuno on top of a gym in Ohio. Judging by pictorial “evidence,” the users then managed to catch the fabled Articuno. The pictures below apparently show their interesting discovery.
However, the legitimacy of Legendary Pokemon being available is debatable, even with apparent screenshots of the creature. First, the inclusion of Articuno could simply be due to a glitch or malfunction by Niantic.
We know that the developers have already experienced vast technical issues and have received bad player feedback with the game because of this. Therefore, it wouldn’t be surprising if this was the case.
Another thing that we know is that the app has been targeted in attempted hacks before by individuals. So the appearance of Articuno could possibly be marked by the work of a hacker or someone manipulating the code of the game. Nevertheless, it’s all speculation at the present time.
A user named kaitcovey posted on a Facebook group for Pokemon Go fans that she was given the legendary Pokemon as an apology by the developers for issues that she encountered. However, why Niantic would use this as a strategy to resolve issues with the game is contentious. We definitely feel that this isn’t true and a made up story.
Time will tell of the legitimacy of Legendary Pokemon. Surely, they will make a fully-fledged appearance in the near future, and the spotting of Articuno may have rightfully been a leak in the game.
But don’t get your hopes up too much as it would make little sense for Niantic to release a Legendary Pokemon intentionally without making a formal announcement.
