Valve’s First Game In Years Gets a Release Date

Valve is behind some of the biggest and best titles in gaming, including Dota 2, Team Fortress 2, Portal and Half-Life, but it’s definitely been a while since we got a new game from Valve.

As much as the gaming community is calling out for Half-Life 3 or a new Portal, our wishes have sadly gone ignored by Valve, who previously announced it’s going ahead with an entirely new game launching this year.

Artifact, Valve’s upcoming digital card game, is – according to Twitter, at least – “the game nobody wanted,” with fans angrily complaining about Valve’s decision to release a card game (even if it is Dota 2 related).

“So Valve is finally going to put a new game out, for the first time in 5 years, an it’s going to be a card game, seriously?” complained one fan.

Another raged: “Why did you stop caring about your fans? What happened to you guys? I used to love Valve and trust you blindly. Aren’t you making enough cash with Steam that you really had to make a card game? I’m disappointed. Unless you announce HL3 or L4D3. Then all is forgiven.”

Not everyone agrees with the hate the game is getting though. Back in March, TotalBiscuit tweeted: “people wonder why Valve is making a card game. They can clearly see whats going on, people aren’t ok with paying big money for untradeable items they dont own, there’s a gap in the market they’re uniquely positioned to fill with a hugely popular IP.”

It’s now been announced that Artifact will be released on 28th November 2018 via Steam of course, with plans for Android and iOS versions at some point in 2019.

The game will retail for around $19.99 on Steam, and from what we’ve seen, it’s looking like a polished game with some really cool ideas behind it. Would you expect anything less from Valve though?

Will you be downloading Valve’s latest offering, or are you still waiting for #HalfLife3Confirmed?
