A Videogame tormented and killed people, it’s releasing again 30 years later

If you have any interest in the history of arcade games, or are a fan of retro gaming, you might have heard backroom whispers of an infamous title called Polybius. Polybius was an arcade game which was released in the early 1980’s and  is reported to have given severe headaches, suicidal tendencies, and nightmares to its players.

The game disappeared from the scene entirely without a trace after just one year and no one has heard of it since. However, the game is only described in urban legends and no one is sure if the game really existed at all.

With the veracity of its history in question, a new game called Polybius will soon be released. The news about this upcoming game was posted by Sony on the PlayStation blog yesterday. They also confirmed that the game will be developed by Jeff Minter, the man behind games like Tempest 2000 and Space Giraffe.

Polybius will be a PlayStation VR exclusive and it’s announcement came in a bizarre fashion. Jeff Minter wrote nearly a 1600 word tale, where he mentioned that he laid eyes on the mysterious and infamous old game in a secret location.

Here’s the main portion of what he said about the game. It’s really weird to say the least.
